and the team went a little mad

All hail the Semantic Markup Liberation Front. Behold our crest of the righteous.

The pressure on my team has been massive for the past 6 months, and we still have looming projects that have can not be missed by any means deadlines right up until Christmas. So about six weeks ago the team and I decided to go celebrate a small success over a few drinks, in a year of legendary achievements.

While joking around, someone suggested our team uses terrorism type tactics in dealing with the rest of the business e.g. using fear and threats of inaction to make internally political change for the better. We all laughed it off and compared ourselves more to the The People’s Front of Judea, than any real serious threat to anyone. However, we all agreed if we were indeed such a group, a logo, emblem or crest was needed.

So a few days later I started on this.
The Semantic Markup Liberation Front Crest

But what does it all mean?

  • The Buddha represents the only collection of words we could make using all the letters of our office fridge magnets - ‘The Buddha Justice Fan Club’
  • The flaming pink unicorn represents the requirements we’re sometimes asked to do - Not to be confused with the Invisible Pink Unicorn (Blessed Be Her Holy Hooves)
  • The Golden Sasquatch represents over complicating a problem when a simple solution is already in front of you.
  • The Skull and Crossbones represents those of us pirates in the team that’ll be once again heading out into the open waters

I had great fun drawing the ‘web team crest’. It gave me a chance to think about work in a positive way while it seemed like it was a madhouse, but also the head space to not think about work for an hour or so every other night. The best compliment so far has been ‘I want to get that tattooed to my face!’.
