Everybody loves browser stats
Averaging browser stats over the past year
As I mention in my last post about the NZ Government Web Standards and Recommendations, the most ‘interesting’ standard is the Minimum web browsers and their respective versions for sites to work in.
I knew this standard was coming up and so I’ve been playing around with the user agent data for the different sites I’m involded with, here’s a very quick example of the compiled year stats for interface-7. What I did was create a seperate spreadsheet with each month which filtered out other user agents and basically reset the browser stats.
I’ve found that most site statistics systems based off logs do a really poor job of filtering browsers and their versions, spiders, RSS readers and other less desirable robots without major customisation. I also noticed mobile browsers poping up on some sites in the last few months which is an interesting development.
